Shuga, a drama series broadcast on popular youth channel Mtv Base deals with a vast array of issues facing the youth of today, one of them being sexual promiscuity. The first season in the series has been a big hit with audiences, prompting the making of a second season.

Dovetailing with themes and issues raised in season 1, season 2 unpacks the risks and repercussions of HIV stigma and high risk sexual behaviour.

In anticipation of the launch of the second season on Valentines Day, 14 February, both the Daily Sun and The Star published reviews of the series this week.

The Shuga series is part of an initiative to get youth talking and to be aware of their behaviour. Shuga was shot in Kenya and is said to be on par with South African productions such as Yizo Yizo, Zone 14 and Jacob’s Cross with regards to implementing messages around responsible sexual behaviour.
