commonwealth homophobic laws are to be revised at a leaders summit in Australia

Commonwealth’s common knowledge

According to an article printed in The New Age (TNA) the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Perth, Australia will tackle the issue of age old homophobic laws still present in many commonwealth countries.

As stated by the article, 41 of 54 commonwealth member nations still had discriminatory laws in place against homosexual sex.

The change in law comes as many of these states now see the need to tackle HIV infection head on in a bid to quell the spread of the virus. The legacy of the old British Empire rears it ugly head against homosexuals by criminalising the act.

Changing these laws can prove quite beneficial to shifting HIV infection rates as more homosexuals will have the freedom to consult proper medical advice without a fear of persecution.
