Every week South Africans read stories of people who were abandoned as children making a desperate plea to be reunited with their parents on the hugely popular reality show Khumbul'Ekhaya.

The show exposes the long-term effects of abandonment on children. However, such cases are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to child abandonment.
