Anybody with a sweet tooth could automatically become a ‘sweet-heart’ if SANAC’s tax plan becomes a reality.

Move over sin tax! South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) has proposed that fizzy soft drinks which contain a lot of sugar become subject to what City Press has labeled a ‘sweet tax.’

The money from the sweet tax would be channeled into government programmes which address HIV.

The sweet tax was laid out in the draft version of the National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis.
