The new fixed-dose combination tablet (FDC) is a mile stone in the treatment of HIV and Aids and is set to benefit the country's health system.
The antiretroviral (ARV)combines tenofovir, emitricitabine and efavirenz, and its rollout by Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi is set to increase adherence and improve response to treatment by cutting down on the number of tablets taken a day at different intervals from anything of up to six to one.
James Sebeng, an assistant district co-ordinator at Seboka, an NGO in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, said the single dose was a welcome intervention for those who did not comply because theu could not afford the meals required before taking tablets.
"Our people are poor, a lot are unemployed, and if they can manage one meal a day to accompany the tablet, then all the batter," he said...read the full article and other related articles
